Useful Softwares (Freeware) - My Favourates

Hi Friends,

This is my second blog once i started writing technical tips. Following are the Good Free softwares which Every Software Engineer must know. By using these tools you can save a lot of time and you can have a lot of Fun. I collected all these tools from my Industrial experience and from lot of Forums.

Hope this blog helps you a lot in finding useful Softwares, Tools and It will be benefit you in day to day life.

Notepad++ is a text editor and source code editor for Windows, though it can run on Linux and Mac OS X, using software such as Wine[1]. The primary advantage of Notepad++ over the built-in text editor, Notepad, is tabbed editing, to easily work with multiple open files.
It is distributed as free software. The project is hosted on SourceForge.net, from where it has been downloaded over twenty million times

TextPad is a powerful, general purpose editor for plain text files. Easy to use, with all the features a power user requires.

Foxit Reader is a multilingual PDF reader. Both the basic and full version readers can be downloaded for free.It allows for annotating and saving unfinished PDF forms, converting to text, highlighting and drawing.

PDFCreator easily creates PDFs from any Windows program. Use it like a printer in Word, StarCalc or any other Windows application.

GIMPshop is a modification of the free  and open source graphics program GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP), intended to replicate the feel of Adobe Photoshop.[1]  Its primary purpose is to make users of Photoshop feel comfortable using GIMP

Picasa is a software application for organizing and editing digital photos, originally created by Idealab and owned by Google

VirtualDub is a video capture/processing utility for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows platforms (98/ME/NT4/2000/XP/Vista/7), licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL).  It lacks the editing power of a general-purpose editor such as Adobe Premiere, but is streamlined for fast linear operations over video.  It has batch-processing capabilities for processing large numbers of files and can be extended with third-party video filters.  VirtualDub is mainly geared toward processing AVI files, although it can read (not write) MPEG-1 and also handle sets of BMP images.

VLC media player is an open source, free software media player and multimedia framework written by the VideoLAN  project.

VLC is a portable multimedia player, encoder, and streamer supporting many audio and video codecs and file formats as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols. It is able to stream over networks and to transcode multimedia files and save them into various formats. VLC used to stand for VideoLAN Client, but that meaning is now deprecated.[1][2]

It is one of the most platform-independent players available, with versions for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, BeOS, Syllable, BSD, MorphOS, Solaris.

7-Zip is open source software. Most of the source code is under the GNU LGPL license. The unRAR code is under a mixed license. You can use 7-Zip on any computer, including a computer in a commercial organization. You don't need to register or pay for 7-Zip.

Dia is designed to be much like the commercial Windows program 'Visio 97'. It can be used to draw many different kinds of diagrams. It currently has special objects to help draw entity relationship diagrams, UML diagrams, flowcharts, network diagrams, and simple circuits. It is also possible to add support for new shapes by writing simple XML files, using a subset of SVG to draw the shape.

WinSCP is an open source SFTP client and FTP client for Windows. Its main function is the secure file transfer between a local and a remote computer. Beyond this, WinSCP offers basic file manager functionality.

PuTTY is an SSH and telnet client, developed originally by Simon Tatham for the Windows platform. PuTTY is open source software that is available with source code and is developed and supported by a group of volunteers.

AVG is an umbrella term for a range of anti-virus and internet security software for the Microsoft Windows, Linux, and FreeBSD  computing platforms, developed by AVG Technologies

OpenOffice.org  commonly known as OpenOffice, is an open source software  application suite available for a number of different computer operating systems. It is distributed as free software and written using its own GUI toolkit. It supports the ISO/IEC standard OpenDocument  Format (ODF) for data interchange as its default file format, as well as Microsoft Office formats among others. As of November 2009[update], OpenOffice supports over 110 languages

BitTorrent (often abbreviated to 'BT') is a protocol that allows you to download files quickly and efficiently. It is a peer to peer protocol, which means you download and upload to other people downloading the same file. BitTorrent is often used for distribution of very large files, very popular files and files available for free, as it is a cheap, fast, efficient way to distribute files to users like you.
µTorrent is a BitTorrent client. A 'client' in this case is a computer program that follows the rules of a protocol. For example, HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol) is the protocol used to download web pages and other content - like this page - and your HTTP client (or browser) is the program you use to get those web pages. Eclipse is a multi-language software development environment comprising an integrated development environment (IDE) and an extensible plug-in system. VM, which stands for "Virtual Machine" (not to be confused with the broader term virtual machine), is a widely-installed operating system for IBM-compatible computers and servers that can host other operating systems in such a way that each operating system behaves as if it were installed on a self-contained computer with its own set of programs and hardware resources.
MySQL is a relational database management system (RDBMS)[1]  that runs as a server providing multi-user access to a number of databases.

Synergy lets you easily share a single mouse and keyboard between multiple computers with different operating systems, each with its own display, without special hardware. It's intended for users with multiple computers on their desk since each system uses its own monitor(s).
Redirecting the mouse and keyboard is as simple as moving the mouse off the edge of your screen. Synergy also merges the clipboards of all the systems into one, allowing cut-and-paste between systems. Cygwin is a Unix-like  environment and command-line interface for Microsoft Windows. Cygwin provides native integration of Windows-based applications, data, and other system resources with applications, software tools, and data of the Unix-like environment. Thus it is possible to launch Windows applications from the Cygwin environment, as well as to use Cygwin tools and applications within the Windows operating context.

JMoney RCP is a personal finance (accounting) manager written in Java. It is built using the Eclipse RCP and can be extended using plug-ins. If you wish your accounts program had a feature specific to your needs, download JMoney RCP and write a plugin.
